さとり【悟り】

1 〔理解〕 comprehension; apprehension; understanding.

●悟りがいい[早い] be quick to understand; be quick-witted

・悟りが悪い be slow to understand; be slow-[dull-]witted.

2 【仏教】 〔悟道〕 satori; spiritual awakening [enlightenment, realization]; higher perception.

●悟りの境地 a state of enlightenment.

●悟りを開く 〔悟道に入る〕 be spiritually awakened [enlightened]; achieve [attain] spiritual enlightenment; 〔あきらめる〕 take things philosophically [as they are]; resign oneself to one's lot

・私は死生の悟りを開いた. I have been enlightened about life and death. | The truth about life and death has dawned upon me.
